Ancare History
In 1965 Stan Kanarek was practicing law but also had part ownership in an air purifier business where Nat Zell was the Sales Manager. Nat had made a call on the NYC Department of Public Health, where he met Walter Sapanski. Walter told Nat that it would be great if there were one source to go to for most of his animal facility equipment needs.
And Ancare was born.
Upon Nat's passing in 1969, Stan moved to Ancare's office where he would continue his law practice and assist Nat's brother Bill in running Ancare. A few years later when Bill passed away, Stan gave up law to run Ancare exclusively.
In 1987, Stan's son Mitch joined the company. No longer just trade shows and catalogs, Mitch hit the road and Ancare grew even faster.
In 1991, Stan decided that it was time for him to retire and Mitch to take his role of President. Of course, Mitch would need someone to assume his previous role, and Ancare was very lucky to find the perfect person - Brian Gallagher, VP Sales.
Thanks to Mitch, Brian, a great team of sales people and a great office staff, Ancare has continued to grow, yet remains dedicated to the original concept of one-stop shopping for your lab animal facility. This history, albeit brief, is only just the beginning!
